MMRDA looking forth in developing a multi-modal transport
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) which is the government body responsible for the infrastructure development in the Mumbai region may spend as much as Rs.1 trillion in order to build and expand metro-rail links and roads to distant suburbs over the next 7 to 8 years.
MMRDA has also been making plans to develop multi-modal transport infrastructure corridor between the regions of Virar in the North and Alibaug in the South. Previously the MMRDA’s focus was largely on the infrastructure projects in Mumbai but now they are trying to make a conscious effort so that they can improve, not only the connectivity of the rest of MMR with Mumbai but also within MMR. The aforesaid was stated by U.P.S. Madan, metropolitan commissioner and chief of MMRDA during a public interview.
These plans will help in enhancing the never ending traffic problems. Traffic has always been a matter of concern for metropolitan cities. Hopefully the plans of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development to introduce rather develop a multi modal transport corridor will help in reducing the traffic problems. How the plan will be implemented has yet not been announced by MMRDA.
