No Comments Sub Category:Municipality,Uncategorized Posted On: Oct 17, 2011

The beaches and waterfronts in Mumbai city is on a clean drive and will soon get cleaner in near future. Brihanmumbai municipal corporation (BMC) is planning to build more water plants to treat sewage before dispensing it into sea areas, however nearly 1,700 million litres (MLD) of sewage that is generated in Mumbai everyday is being dispensed into the sea untreated and this is because not all the sewers that are not connected to the treatment plants. This drive is to ensure not to let go the sewage directly to the sea. Untreated sewage getting collected from slums, residential colonies and also the industries are being directly connected to the sea which is intern raising the level of pollution and also the sea coasts appearing completely untidy.

The sewage water treatment drive is estimated to cost nearly Rs70 crore in individual areas. The civic body in Mumbai city has received 13 bidders for installing the treatment plant overall costing Rs 5,200 crore as Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project (MSDP) which is expected to be completed within a span of a year. Additional municipal commissioner Rajiv Jalota reported saying that this project was being discussed from a long run and had remained as an overdue and now they have taken initiative of this project to complete at the earliest. The official was glad to say that nearly 13 firms have come forward in showing interest to take up initiative of this drive. If this project is implemented soon Mumbai city will upheld the fame of being a “Clean City.”
