Mysore solid waste management plant to be relocated
The centralised solid waste management plant in Mysore city will be relocated to the outskirts very soon.
The MCC has decided to shift the solid waste management plant to Rayanakere on H D Kote Road which has come as a great relief to the residents. Many real estate developers are focusing on JP Nagar and surrounding areas to develop new layouts, but the decision of shifting the solid waste management plant is likely to create ripples in the real estate sector.
Rupees one core has been approved for the development of Dalvoy Lake lying adjacent to JP Nagar and MCC is proposing to develop the lake like the legendary Kukkarahalli Lake. The residents of Vidyaranyapuram, JP Nagar and surrounding areas are relieved. However, the sewage treatment plant at the site will not be moved out.
The chairman of the taxation and finance standing committee said that the three sewage treatment plants which are located at three different places in the city will be upgraded and the solid waste management plant will be moved to Rayanakere. The chairman had protested more than once seeking relocation of the garbage plant while the real estate sector had lobbied for it.
The MCC has set up five zero waste management plants in five among nine zones in the city and said the remaining four will be completed during 2013-14. At the centralized location, non-degradable waste and bio-degradable waste will be treated separately.
The city is going to get a centralized bio-gas plant for an amount of Rs 60 lakh. However, the place has not been finalised yet. The MCC has set aside Rs 25 lakh to set up a plant to treat plastic and generate fuel, an experiment which has not yielded results in other major cities including Bangalore.
Bangalore is expecting to see a drop down by 1,500 tonnes in the quantity of garbage it generates everyday this World Environment Day. The corporates gave a commitment to start a drive to cut down on garbage generation from 3,500 tonnes to 2,000 tonnes at the Wake Up Clean Up Bengaluru Fair at Freedom Park here.
The MD of Britannia suggests that every company should set up a core team of three people each to pilot a waste segregation/waste management programme. All the high officials also pledged their support to the cause.
Shantinagar MLA said that he will identify a plot in his area which will be dedicated to waste segregation and bio-gas production. BBMP commissioner promised that all the wards will have Dry Waste Collection Centres (DWCC) in another 8-10 months. At present, 60 of the 198 wards in the city have DWCCs.
