Nagpur Municipal Corporation halts introduction of new taxes
Following protest against new taxes-sewage benefit tax, water benefit tax and road tax, Nagpur Municipal Corporation halts proposal to introduce taxes. Nagpur City Congress Committee president Vikas Thakre and Congress corporators protest against the proposed taxes outside NMC’s town hall.
NMC general body meeting was supposed to discuss the introduction of new taxes. But, mayor Pravin Datke decided not to discuss the proposal. He ruled out dropping the proposal under pressure from the Congress corporators and clarified it would be tabled in the next meeting with an addition.
Thakre warned new taxes will create additional 18%-20% burden on property owners. Datke said that as per the new Municipal Corporation Act, imposition of new taxes was a must. Thakre suggested the tax department should ensure 100% recovery of property tax from citizens.
