Namma MetroThe metro project is running behind the schedule by almost 2 years. However, the 42.3 kilometers long Phase-1 of Namma Metro should be ready by the mid of 2014.

The Bangalore metro project got all the necessary approvals from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety and it will pass over the Indian Railway Bridge. The design also has to be aesthetically correct. But the main cause for the delay in Phase I is land acquisition and the 66 metre span viaduct.

Reach 3 was scheduled for a launch in December 2012 which will run between Swastik in Malleshwaram and Hessarghatta Cross. It was expected to have benefited many commuters as the line passes through Peenya which is concentrated of industrial and business establishments and the over crowded residents of Malleshwaram.

An official of BMRCL, said that Reach-3 and Reach-3 A which is a 10.5 km long line, between Sampige Road and Peenya would be launched this year in July. Bangaloreans will be happy to know that Namma Metro also plans to launch Reach-4 line between KR Market and RV Road this year. The construction work is near completion.

Underground metro work is going on in full swing as there was a delay by over six months in the construction work because of the shifting of Ambedkar statue. The underground stretch is a crucial part of the Phase-1 and it has to be completed by the beginning of 2014 so that metro trains could criss-cross at the Majestic interchange station.

Phase- 2 which includes extensions of the four reaches in Phase-1 and two new lines is yet to get approval. The state government requested New Delhi to give speedy clearance so that the civic body can start the work. According to sources, if everything goes well, work on Phase-2 can start in five months.

BMRCL has submitted its recommendations on the High Speed Rail Link to the state government. It has suggested extending of Gottigere-Nagawara metro line under Phase-2 to the airport in Devanahalli. Initially it will take 44 minutes from Central Business District to reach the airport but once the area is fully developed and number of stations is increased it would take around 55 minutes to reach the airport from Central Business District.
