New funding model proposed for metro projects in Mumbai

No Comments Sub Category:Civic Issues,Metro,Mumbai Posted On: Apr 04, 2013

FundsMaharashtra Chief Minister has claimed that there will be a new funding model for all the proposed metro projects in the state.

The CM announced it recently in the Legislative Council after the central government turned down the proposal of relaxing the norms used for providing the funds for metro projects.

The projects were supposed to be funded by viability gap funding model.

After questioned regarding the Pune metro, CM announced that Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor, which is Mumbai’s first, will be public in next four months.

Minister of State for Urban Development said that the approval of Swargate-Pimpri Chinchwad-Kothrud-Ramwadi project of Rs 7984 worth will be brought before the state cabinet by this month end.

Also, it has been claimed that to increase urbanisation in the state, the government has plans to take up more metro projects in other cities in the state as well.

Also, it has been in news that the opening of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro to the public will delay even though the construction of the line is nearing completion. It passed the seventh deadline without opening on time.

Now, the deadline has been set to August 2013. However, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials said the line will be open to the public only in December 2013.

According to the officials of Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL), 99% of the construction work is complete. However, the work on the stations is far from being complete.

Versova and Chakala stations are almost ready but Asalfa station is half done. Also, if the Asalfa station is not ready by year end, the metro will not stop and will be  functional.

Earlier, it was claimed that a part of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro route would be thrown open to the public in March 2013. However, the ground level officials alleged that the time given by the CM was too optimistic and dreamy.
