New policy on cell phone towers in Mumbai
A new policy is in the making by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) regarding new cellphone towers in Mumbai.
According to the draft policy, the new cellphone towers to be built on the terraces have to be out of bound for residents of apartments in Mumbai.
The policy has been formulated following the guidelines and instructions from the Union department of telecommunication and the High Court.
The new policy says that at least consent of 70% residents of apartments in Mumbai is necessary to install a tower. Also, a certificate of structural stability will be required from a licensed structural engineer.
Furthermore, if the building is more than 30 years old, then a new structural certificate has to be sanctioned after every five years.
The new policy will also have norms about keeping a safe distance between cellphone tower antennas and the surrounding residential apartments. It has to be 35 metre for two antennas, 45 metre for four antennas and 55 metre for six.
