NHAI opposes the idea of building 20-km roads a day
New Delhi – NHAI is unhappy with the government’s decision of constructing roads at 20 km a day. As per the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the government’s target to construct roads at 20 km a day is not worth as there are too many government agencies involved.
As per an NHAI official, there has been an involvement by the Finance Ministry and Planning Commission in the project implementation issues.
They have stated that this is a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth and that the planning commission and the Department of Economic Affairs should only impose policy guidelines.
He also said that the construction of roads 20 km a day is an unsustainable idea and will not be achieved due to the lack of market capacity. An investment of Rs. 90,000 crore is required in order to build 10,000 km road out of which 30 percent of the money should be in the form of equity from various companies which is quite complicated.
