NHAI uploads report of 26 projects on its website
The detailed status report of the 26 projects by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been put on its website on the back of a face-off with minister of environment and forests (MoEF) over delayed green clearances for several road projects.
The authority had posted all the details of each of the project, describing the sequence of events and the date since when the process for environment and forest clearance started.
The analysis shows that while environmental clearance comes fast, usually forest clearance takes long. So the final clearance will come from the green department two years after the work starts.
The practice of putting out details in public domain means that people will have access to the updated information, according to a source.
The NHAI officials and the highway ministry functionaries are trying to push the demand of separating green clearance from forest nod for faster execution of road projects. Also, a decision at highest level has been taken that the MoEF would approach the Supreme Court seeking relief for road projects.
The details posted by NHAI on their website also point out how it has to pursue cases for long, which are contrary to MoEF claims. The green ministry has been claiming that it clears files without any delay.
Earlier, NHAI had uploaded all details of its communication with Delhi-Gurgaon concessionaire and the lead banker after NHAI worked out a compromise formula with the private player.
This was done to clear all doubts and the swirling rumours since the negotiation took place after NHAI had served the termination notice.
