NMC Nashik to meet real estate developers to force for traffic islands

Nashik’s Municipal commissioner Sanjay Khandare has decided to meet with the real estate developers this week to discuss the topic of development of traffic islands and road dividers in the city. The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI) has planned to start its work before 15 February but till today no work is started.

Mr. Khandare says that he is conducting the meeting with builders to know whether they are going to do that work or not. The work is to be completed before the Kumbh Mela, so that interested developers can start the work. The developers will get it designed from an architect and take its approval.

An official says that unless they get the cooperation from all the departments of NMC, they could not able to start the work. Very few builders are interested in this project and we are in the phase of doing everything in elegant manner. He also added that everything has been approved long time back, therefore, the work could not be affected.

In 2012, the NMC and the CREDAI had planned to get the city’s traffic islands and road dividers developed and maintained by the latter as part of their corporate social responsibility. The NMC also mentioned that due to the shortage of manpower and money to invest it is the ideal solution of the problem.

In 2012, 25 developers selected the traffic islands and submitted a list to the NMC. In February 2013, the standing committee sanctioned the list after which the developers prepared the drawing and submitted it to NMC to get sanctioned.  The civic body had suggested few ideas and improvement in the list. This process took 6 months and the project that was scheduled to start after Diwali last year stretched to January and then later to 15 February.

The mayor in a meeting with CREDAI mentioned that the work on 12 of the 37 traffic islands will be started before 15 February.
