No Broken Roads this Monsoon-MCD Delhi

No Comments Sub Category:Community,Municipality Posted On: Jul 19, 2011

Residents of Delhi-NCR won’t witness broken roads this monsoon. The civic agency claimed it has improved the methods used to maintain city roads. MCD Delhi also said it has adopted methods of specification like its civic counterpart CPWD, to test the material used for the repair of roads so that no contractor allows use of substandard material. This is what MCD Delhi told Delhi high court on Monday.

Earlier, expressing displeasure at the condition of the roads, HC had appointed two lawyers to assist the case and sought suggestions from them.

These suggestions were filed in April this year and the court asked MCD to make its stand clear before the monsoons. The lawyers had suggested that instead of carrying out repairs, new roads should be constructed and the material used for them be tested using methods adopted by CPWD to check the quality of the materials.

They also suggested the roads should be made on the basis of a long-term plan keeping in mind problems such as water-logging. Before the CWG, high court had directed MCD to survey existing roads and make plans to upgrade them at par with international standards and implement the scheme in a time-bound manner.
