Over 40,000 landladies emerge in Chhattisgarh
Raipur- The number of women property owners has been rising in Chhattisgarh as an outcome of the special privilege given by the state government.
In a measure to empower women in the state, the Chhattisgarh government had announced that one percent stamp duty will be exempted for land or property registrations done in the name of women. A percent less in the stamp duty of land registration can save a huge amount.
As an outcome many buyers started registering properties in the name of women members of their families and currently there are more than 40,000 women landowners in the state and is expected to continue to rise even more.
Inspired by the incentive, several property buyers opt to register land or house in the name of woman members in their families. As per the land records, by 31st December 2012, 40,309 land registrations have been made in the name of women, said government sources. This is definitely a good sign of progress in terms of empowerment of women. The new trend in the state is expected to grow even further.
Overall, Rs 22.21 crore worth stamp duty had been exempted on the property registrations that were made in the name of women members, revealed sources.
Raipur district stood first in availing the exemption given by the government as part of strengthening the power of woman in the family. Records show that 7103 women had purchased property in Raipur in their name and availed an exemption of Rs 7.57 crore. Around 937 women registered properties in their names in Balod district which stood at last on the list and saved Rs 28.59 lakh.
The initiative followed by Chhattisgarh is the first of its kind and a strong measure in ensuring financial stability of women. Practising this initiative in other states would be worthwhile and ensures providing more security to women.
