PCMC gives property tax rebate to some group of communities
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has a good news for certain group of people in community.
Now, ex-servicemen, freedom fighters and women property holders in Pimpri Chinchwad will get a rebate of 50% in their property tax from the coming fiscal year.
However, this scheme is only applicable to only one property in case anyone has multiple properties.
The property tax department of PCMC had proposed a minimum hike of 4% and a maximum of 13% in various taxes to be collected for 2013-14.
Also, the municipal commissioner has alleged that PCMC gets 70% of its income from octroi and the remaining percent comes from property and other taxes. He also said that the octroi will be abolished from April 1, 2013, and will be replaced by Local Body Tax (LBT).
If octroi had been there for next year, then the body claims to have collected Rs 1500 crore. A deficit of Rs 200- 300 crore will be faced if LBT is implemented. This is the reason to increase the rates of properties in Pune to increase the revenue.
Also, Pune Municipal Corporation has recently given green signal to the hike of 6% in property tax. It will definitely put a lot of pressure on the citizens.
With the hike in property tax, PMC is expecting an additional revenue of Rs 40 crore. Maharashtra NavnirmanSena had joined hands with NCP to put a stay on tax hike.
As per the civic administration, it was necessary to increase the tax to increase revenue from taxes and other sources, considering the cost escalation in developmental projects. Also, the expenditure on providing civic amenities like water supply and sewage treatment is also high.
Property tax is one of the main sources of revenue for the PMC. The tax department handles the billing and collection of property tax on residential and commercial, plots and other types of properties in Pune.
