FundsPimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is able to spend only 42% of the total fund which was allocated to the civic body for capital intensive development works for the financial year 2012-13.

Earlier, Rs 741.95 crore was provided in the 2012-13 budget which was increased to Rs 789.81 crore in the revised budget. However, the civic body spent only Rs 316.78 crore since April 1, 2012.

The accounts officer of PCMC has claimed that the civic chief has directed the body to start work on the projects for which provision in the budget has been made, to ensure that the maximum amount of funds are utilized.

To ensure that the funds are fully utilised by the civic body, the authority has claimed that the process for preparing the draft budget of 2013-14 is in progress.

The municipal commissioner has directed the departments to submit a time routine of the projects to be completed. The time frame would also be included in the draft budget, which contains details of the dates of the bidding process, issuing the work order, starting the actual construction work and the completion date.

With the time frame in place, the civic departments have to strictly follow it so that work on the projects starts on time and is completed on time.

Out of the 40% of funds spent, the engineering department has spent Rs 254.15 crore, the electricity department spent Rs 13.27 crore, the water supply department spent Rs 30.14 crore as against provision of Rs 556.85 crore, Rs 54.53 crore and Rs 113.18 crore respectively.

Furthermore, in another one month left for financial year to end, the civic administration has to spend 60 percent of the budget, which looks impossible.
