Plantation Drive in Visakhapatnam to reduce Pollution Levels

The City of Destiny Visakhapatnam is on new plans and will soon be turned into green city. To reduce the massive rise in pollution in the city, massive green plantation drive has been initiated by the government authorities. Nearly 40 lakh saplings are planned off to be planted in around 72 wards in the city. The project is estimated to cost around Rs. 80 crore also around 16 lakh saplings is to be planted in the hilly areas.

The plan execution was started with the suggestion given by T Subbarami Reddy, a chairman of the parliamentary standing committee of science, technology, environment and forests. Subbarami Reddy reported saying that Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (Vuda) will be taking initiative of the plan at the initial stage and followed by other departments like; Visakha Steel Plant, Vizag Port Trust, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd will be initiating 1 lakh saplings each.
All the saplings are being borrowed from Kadiam nursery in Rajahmundry and also VSP nursery. The residents are in a glee with the green project taken initiative by the government. In near future the city will be titled as “green city”and has been estimated to be pollution free completely.
