PMC fails to provide Storm Water Drains for 50 percent of Pune Roads
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has failed deliberately in proving proper infrastructure for the city roads in Pune. Nearly 50 percent of the city roads stretched along the radius of 1,800 km are lacking storm water drain facilities. This came into the notice of city improvement committee (CIC) during the commence of heavy rainfall. Chairman of the committee, Arun Dhimdhime reported saying that, their committee has asked the civic administration to re-consider and commence the work of construction storm water drains on all the city roads. He also added on saying that the municipal workers have been warned off to complete the work at the earliest for the welfare of commuters in the city.
The reason for civic body demanding to hurry up the work is that, the lack of stormwater drainage system on the city roads are waterlogging all the roads in the city during this rainy season. The estimated cost of the project has been traced around Rs 350 crore to build stormwater drains in the city. The water logging on the city roads seems to be causing lot of inconvenience to the commuters who travel for work everyday. The committee has traced that nearly 50 roads in the city demands immediate placement of stormwater drains to avoid further problems. Henceforth the civic workers have been told to work on those roads and also they have been ordered to ready the potholes which has also been a major threat to the commuters in the city.
