Power generation affected due to technical issues
Hyderabad- The technical snags which resulted in constant thermal power plant breakdown are eventually affecting the power supply in the state.
About 1100 MW of thermal power generation was affected due to the technical issues of the five thermal plants.
The key reason for the recurrent occurrence of snags was due to lack of the annual shutdown and capital maintenance. There was a delay in the annual shutdown of the thermal power plant because of the soaring electricity demand and the lower output of the hydro power plants which were further affected with weak rainfall in the monsoon season. This is the main reason for the breakdowns of the coal-fired generation.
Currently a number of thermal plant stations like the Vijayawada thermal station unit 1 and 6, Kothagudem thermal station unit 5 and 6 and Kakatiya thermal plant near Warangal are shut down resulting in a shortage of 1100 MW every day. It is assumed that it will take another week to resume functioning.
