Present government planning home for urban poor

No Comments Sub Category:Infrastructure,Realty News Posted On: Aug 21, 2014

In sync with one of the key policy initiatives of the Modi government to provide housing to the urban poor, the government is planning to expand the net of affordable housing to include more people under the various housing projects targeted at economically weaker sections (EWS) and lower income group (LIG).

The proposal drafted by the housing and urban poverty alleviation (HUPA) ministry raises the eligibility bar for affordable housing for families from EWS with a monthly income of less than Rs 16,000 as opposed to the current cap of Rs 8,000.

For LIGs, the income ceiling for families eligible for the scheme has been increased from Rs 16,000 to Rs 25,000. The ceiling has been revised as we found that lack of financial inclusion of the urban poor was one of the key reasons for non take-off of old housing schemes as said by a source.

The scheme that is going to provide house for the urban poor has still not been properly stated in front of the people as how much time will be required and other such details. Probably by this year the work will see its start.
