Project announcements might be made in 15th August speech
The present government has been weighing options of announcing “big ticket“projects on three key dates including August 15, which marks Independence Day. Government officials said the other two dates during which the government may kick off some of the projects include completion of 100 days of the NDA coalition and September 25, the birthday of Jan Sangh stalwart Deen Dayal Upadhayay.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi speech on August 15 may signal a shift from the past where the prime minister is expected to announce specific timelines for the projects to be launched. The urban development ministry is finalizing policy for smart cities with experts from different sectors, including World Bank.
Officials are also finalising the strategy to kick off the plan to provide housing to all in urban areas by 2022. Similarly, the road transport ministry is working on the target of awarding 8,300 km during this financial year and to push infrastructure development in North East and other backward zones in the country.
The government has also been implementing most of its plans that has been announced in the budget so that the PM can address to them during his speech on Independence Day.
