property taxHyderabad- After a heavy loss of revenue in municipalities and municipal corporations, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to collect property tax and other revenue.

The financial year 2012-13 is approaching and GHMC commissioner has appointed various senior officials to check the collection of property tax on day to day basis. These appointed officials will take care of various circles in the city.

On January 22, 2013, a review meeting was held between the commissioner and officials in this regard. The commissioner was not happy with the new assessment of property tax. He pointed out that these assessments were not equal with new building permissions. Around 2,17,270 members are evading property tax from past three to four years and these people must be pressurized to pay tax.

But he is contented with the total property tax collection till date. The tax collection by GHMC as on January 20, 2013 is around Rs 460 crore while it was Rs 349.43 crore on the same date of 2012.

To speed up the process with more scrutiny, the commissioner ordered the additional commissioner to empower bill collectors to accumulate rents of commercial complexes in their jurisdictions. Additionally, he demanded proposal of hike in rents of shops in complexes from the zonal commissioners. He also asked them to send legal notices to shopkeepers who have not paid tax from past three or more months.

Shop owners who do not have trade licences will also be asked to submit documents to get the licence. Till then these shopkeepers will be provided a provisional license along with a notice.

In case of Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) and LPS there were few applicants who had submitted documents like structural stability certificate, provide title documents and urban land ceiling clearance for releasing final approval and applicants who had paid their penal amounts. Commissioner directed the officials to issue proceedings for these applicants. In this regard, a meeting will be held soon by next week.
