India ePost service

Coimbatore – With the financial year nearing; civic bodies all over India are coming up with new strategies to collect property tax dues. One such scenario made news in Coimbatore, where the Coimbatore Corporation is sending reminders through the India Post’s ePost service.

Last month, Coimbatore Corporation sent around 5,000 mails through ePost. The civic body has tied up with the postal department to send email messages to people regarding property and water tax payment arrears.

This facility of e-message is available at computerised postal offices where the sender can send a message by an electronic mail (email) which would be further sent to the respective post office. Then a print out of the mail will be hand delivered by a postman to the recipient.

The property tax plays a major role for the civic body as it accounts more than 53 percent of its total amount of Rs. 191 crore. Till last week of February, 2013 the Corporation has collected 70 percent of the property tax which amounts Rs 72.52 crore.

Corporate companies can use this service to send statements, announcements etc. by enrolling as an e-Post Corporate customer. They are given a login identity which can be used to send an epost from their office computer.

The customer can check the number of messages booked, messages printed, and the charges incurred from his login account. The sender can also check the status of delivery of the ePost to the recipient. This service is used by only few customers in Coimbatore city . Thus the Corporation has used this facility to reach out to a large number of people.

The cost of sending such email reminders through ePost is very less. This facility has been used for the first time to remind property tax arrears and would be continued depending on the response received.
