Property tax ward-wise survey to be conducted at Mangalore
Mangalore- The Mangalore City Corporation has planned to conduct a ward-wise survey for property tax which would find the liability of each building.
The ward-wise estimate of the tax would help in prioritising allocation of funds for each ward in the forthcoming budget. As of now, a private firm will be starting the survey in two wards which have been chosen.
When Councillor Deepak Poojary (Congress) enquired about the total tax collected since 2008 when the Self-Assessment Scheme was launched, he was told that Rs. 22 crore of the estimated Rs. 44 crore had been collected as tax for 2012-13. The Rs. 44 crore even included the amount of property tax that was not collected in the earlier year.
To overcome the issues with property tax estimation and collection, the MCC Commissioner, Harish Kumar, initiated a survey in each ward of the city and figure out all the details related to property tax.
