Pune’s IT sector has seen significant growth in recent years
Pune – the second biggest city in Maharashtra – has witnessed highly noteworthy transformation in recent years; thanks largely to the budding automobile ancillary industry in the city as well as the increasing presence of the IT/ITeS sector.
According to an observation highlighted by Anshuman Magazine, there has been a notable growth of Pune’s IT sector, in particular, over the last few years; with the result that the city has been witnessing a sustained demand for office spaces.
It was in the early 2000s that the tone for the Pune realty sector’s transformation was set by the state government’s initiative to promote the city as an IT/ITES destination; along with promoting the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park in Hinjewadi as an IT/ITeS knowledge hub. Towards that end, massive tracks of land were acquired by the state government, and leading Indian MNCs – like Wipro, Infosys, and TCS – were attracted to set up their base in the city.
In the last few years, a few global majors have also come up with their Indian headquarters in Pune. The city is currently home to a number of major IT parks, including Magarpatta Cyber City, EON Free Zone, Embassy Tech Park, Commerzone, Panchshil Tech Park, MIDC Software Technology Park in Talawade, and Marisoft IT Park in Kalyani Nagar.
In addition, Pune also houses more than six universities and 500 colleges, including leading institutes like the Armed Forces Medical College, the College of Engineering, the Film and Television Institute of India, and the Symbiosis Institutes.
