Ration cards to be linked with Aadhar cards soon
Soon, Aadhar cards will be linked with the ration cards as suggested by the Bombay High Court to the state government to keep a check on fake and duplicate ration cards.
Since there had been many cases of bogus ration cards in last two years, an approach has been advised by two Judges of Bombay High Court. They want it to make it mandatory to produce Aadhar Card to issue new ration card. They also want a verification process to be in place which can track duplicate ration cards.
As per the reply to the allegations, government has to say that they were short of staff to keep a check on such activities. But the judges have to say that only one team is needed to run the function after they link both the cards via a software. No great change is necessary.
After an order in December 2010, the state government carries out a state wide operation of catching fake cards. In the exercise, they detected and cancelled 53.39 lakh ineligible cards. Action has been sought by the court against those officers who had issued such cards.
