Residents block traffic in protest against lack of basic amenities
The local body had failed to ensure adequate supply of protected drinking water to the residents of Anna Street and many other parts in Veerappan Chatram Municipality. Over 100 residents of Anna Street blocked the traffic in Veerappan Chatram Erode. They also pointed out that the sanitary conditions in many residential colonies remained poor as the local body had grossly failed to ensure proper garbage collection and cleaning of the drains.
. “We are getting contaminated water for the past few days and the local body is yet to initiate any efforts to sort out the problem,” they said.
“Sewage overflows from the heavily clogged drains and stagnates on the streets and vacant lands. The foul smell emanating from the stagnated sewage is unbearable. Mosquito menace has increased to alarming proportions,” the residents complained.
People in the area urged the civic officials to initiate immediate efforts to create adequate amenities in all the residential colonies in Veerappan Chatram and speed up the implementation of the UGD project.
