Residents of Diamond District Protested against Commercialization of Apartment

1 Comment Sub Category:Community,Legal Posted On: Aug 09, 2010

Residents of Diamond District apartment complex on old airport road protested the shoot for film and complained that no permission was obtained from Diamond District Apartment Owners Welfare Association (DDAOWA) and Producer hadn’t obtained police permission for shooting in the complex.

Chaos reigned at Diamond District apartment complex on Saturday after a 150-member film crew landed at the plush complex for shooting the Kannada film “Prema Purana”. The war of words between residents and film crew came to halt only after police intervened and chased away the crew.

Residents of Diamond District apartment claimed that frequent film shoots in the vicinity were disturbing their peace. DDAOWA alleged that the maintenance manager behaves as if they are absolute owners of Diamond District apartment complex and residents protested against  commercialization of residential serviced apartments. They have now lodged complaint in the Old Airport Road police station.

Reacting to charges movie director ShivaKumar said “We have a permission letter from Century Galaxy Developers Ltd (CDGL) for shooting on this premises.” “We must get refund of charges paid for shooting in apartment complex from CDGL” he added. The Kannada film “Prema Purana” starring Nithin, Radhika Gandhi, Shraddha Dey and others chose Diamond District apartment complex as one of locations. The shoot for this movie had been on in a serviced apartment for about week now. On Saturday, the scene shifted to the lawn drawing the ire of residents.

“The movie makers have now been allowed to come and shoot films here. The maintenance manager behaves as if they are absolute owners of Diamond District apartment complex. They earn Rs 30,000 per day to give permission for such activities. This nothing but interruption on our privacy.” said President of DDAOWA Raja Nambiar.

The residents have now lodged police complaint and recently met Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali and BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah against commercialization of Residents Apartment complexes. “We will ask Lokayukta to come to our rescue. We want him to intervene and get us Sales Deed for our apartment complex” added President Nambiar.

“We are owners of the apartment. We don’t allow commercial activity on our premises. Why should CDGL give permission to film makers without our consent? With over 400 workers employed in the 230-odd serviced apartments, we have been facing security threats of sorts. It’s unsafe for women and Children” said apartment dwellers
