Residents of Kengeri ready to fund up to Rs 4 lakh for skywalk
The residents of Kengeri Bangalore, who risk their lives while crossing the railway tracks, claim that they can mobilize around Rs 4 lakh if fund-crunch is the reason why the railway authorities are not constructing a pedestrian over-bridge near Kengeri village. What prompted the appeal was an accident that took place on Thursday, in which a woman lost her both legs after being run over by a speeding train.
Every day, hundreds of people from the Satellite Town cross the tracks to catch buses. After this incident where the woman lost her legs trying to cross the railway tracks, the residents demands either the BBMP or the railway authorities should construct the flyover. Residents offer to raise up to Rs 4 lakh if fund-crunch is the reason why the railway authorities are not constructing a pedestrian over-bridge.
However, officials of South Western Railways said they have already floated a tender to construct an underpass in the area. The work would start within three months, they said. GRP inspector Marry Shailja said there was no provision in the Railway Act to provide compensation as she was hit by a train while trespassing on the tracks.
