Rising cases of land encroachment
The high court on Tuesday has asked the government to come out with a timeline for recovering 1.1 million acres of government land in and around Bangalore and across the state. After disapproving the pace at which the government is moving to reclaim its lands, a division bench headed by Chief Justice D H Waghela wondered how many years will it take to recover 11 lakh acres if 1,000 acres or 2,000 acres of encroached lands are recovered every year
At this juncture, counsel representing the petitioners replied that it requires 46 years to recover 11 lakh acres even if 2,000 acres of land is recovered every month. The court was also informed that hardly 200 acres of land had been recovered in and around Bangalore, since the PIL was taken up for hearing about a year ago.
The problem of land encroachment has been rising. Government or even personal lands are being encroached and no proper measures are being taken to stop this problem. Acres of land are encroached in a year and it takes so many years to get the land back. The government should take up measures to stop this problem.
