Cry for demolition gets louder in Asaram land grab row in Bhopal
Though the district administration and civic body are of the firm view that the encroachments need to be demolished, both sides have been playing the blame game.
Rashtriya Jagran Manch, a local voluntary organization demanded the boundary demarcation of the ashram and neighbouring Blair Colony. Ajay Gaur, general secretary of the organization voiced his concerns saying, “Khasra numbers should be made public and building permissions of both the builder and ashram should be examined. Encroachments should be removed within a week or we will launch protests.” He further added, “The ashram and the realtor have built a water tank, gate and a boundary wall on a 12m road. Farmers from neighbouring Gondarmau village have to travel an extra 4 km due to the encroachments. Also, land encroached upon by the builder belongs to Bhopal Development Authority.”
Gaur also said, “District collector and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner have exchanged letters, assuring cooperation, but they are unwilling to demolish the illegal structures. While the collector has asked the commissioner to dispatch bulldozers, the commissioner has asked for a specific date for demolition”
The manch also alleged demolition of encroachments hit a roadblock due to the influence of an additional commissioner of BMC. Also, the administration is wary that demolition of ashram property might hurt religious feelings.”
The memorandums have been submitted by the organization to the chief minister, revenue minister and chief secretary. The matter, earlier, came up for hearing in the collector’s public hearing three months back. Petitioner Shailesh Pradhan had alleged the encroachment of the ashram upon a road which is part of the master plan.
The Asaram ashram has earlier been also accused of grabbing 11 acres of land in Gandhi Nagar, which includes property owned by local residents, Dilip Kukerja and Bhandari.
