Rs 1 lakh penalty levied on Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission

No Comments Sub Category:Awareness,Community,Municipality Posted On: Oct 24, 2011

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has been levied penalty of Rs. 1 lakh by the Appellate Tribunal on Electricity (ATE). This was an outcome of the Mumbai‘s embarrassment, as this was mandated in concern with the rule passed by the MERC stating “The power consumer consuming 1MW and above can opt for the supply of power from any such power supplier outside the state”. The Appellate Tribunal on Electricity is agonized with the act held up by MERC for taking open access regulations without the head concern.

As per the observations made by ATE these regulations not only paves way for hurdles in framing new regulations but also abuses the legal procedures of the state government. The open access given to the public has dashed in phobia for Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) as the revenue of the state would just pour off affecting the company and also the consumers. Henceforth MSEDCL has strictly ordered not to grant or uphold the open access mantra, if at all it is done the concerned authorities will be penalized heftily and also legal moves is said to be initiated.
