Recently, Hyderabad district administration has taken back 3.31 acres of prime government land in Jubilee Hills allotted to Anand Cine Services, which is an outdoor film unit ,because the management failed to utilise it for the purpose it was assigned. The land which is resumed is expected to be worth nearly Rs 100 crore.

In 2001 the Hyderabad district administration had allotted five-acre government land (survey No. 403) on Road No.76, Jubilee Hills in Shaikpet mandal to set up cinema settimgs and parking area, as per revenue records.

The Andhra Pradesh Land Management Authority (APLMA) was set up last year by the state government and it was asked that all district collectors to recognize parcels of government land allotted to private persons for diverse reasons and asked them to surrender a report on the status of the allotted land.

All the parcels of government land last July and short-listed firms, including Anand Cine Services, which had not utilised the allotted land, have been inspected by the Hyderabad collector Mukesh Kumar Meena and Shaikpet mandal revenue authorities. The Anand Cine Services land was in the name of ex- Chennai-based film producer and managing director of Gemini Film Circuit and Anand Cine Services, Akkineni Ravi Shankar Prasad. He had died in an inexplicable way last July.

Management of Anand Cine Services have been asked the reason for not utilising the government land by the Hyderabad district administrations which even send a notice to them. In reply to that notice the firm authorities stated that of that five-acre land allotted, 1.09-acre land was used and remaining was unoccupied. Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) has been asked by the collector to resume the vacant government land.

CCLA examined the case

After examining the case the CCLA determined to resume the land and ordered the Hyderabad collector to take necessary steps. In January the district revenue authorities had served final notices on Anand Cine Services, stating that the vacant land would be resumed shortly because of the instructions given by CCLA and collector.

R Chandrakala , tehasildar, Land Protection, Hyderabad Collectorate told sources , “As per the collector’s instructions, we have resumed the vacant land in possession of Anand Cine Service on Road No. 76, Jubilee Hills in the presence of Shaikpet mandal tehasildar ,Venkat Reddy and other officials. We have sent photographs pertaining to the land to the CCLA.”

Works for construction of a compound wall has begun on the premises so that can be protected from land sharks. To warn the trespassers, a signboard has been put.
