In New Delhi the resident welfare associations in the capital want the power distribution companies (discoms) to be brought under the RTI and this wing is to be audited by the CAG officials. Delhi Chief Minister and the Chairman of Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) reported saying that a wingof RWA has demanded objections that has been filed by the public during the time of PAC report submitted to the government.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit reported saying that the officials of Discom have slayed away ignoring illegal protection from the public even when they voiced their opinions. The advocacy group arranged a meeting of RWAs at the Jantar Mantar on Saturday during which People’s Action founder and chairperson URJA Sanjay Kaul gave the list of certain demands. DERC Chairman wrote a separate letter which conveyed athe message that CAG should be auditing the accounts of the Discom before they would plan for an hike in the charges levied on the public. On the point of the CAG audit, they noted that DERC proved willingness to accept the demand over the High Court notices. The public hearing was an important one in the tax fixation process and that the rejection act from the consumers had to be taken care of without fail in due course of time. If DERC fails in its duty, a committee to view the objections filed will be adopted by the RWA wing.
