Scarcity of dwelling units in urban areas
As accounted there is a shortage of 187.80 lakh dwelling units in the urban areas in the country with Uttar Pradesh which is topping the list as the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
The Ministry is holding consultations with all the stakeholders on the scheme of providing ‘Housing for All‘ by 2022. This was state by the Housing and Poverty Alleviation Minister Venkaiah Naidu in a written reply. He said a Technical Group has estimated urban housing shortage of 187.80 lakh dwelling units in the urban areas of the country.
The Minister said 2,20,741 houses have been built in urban areas during the last 3 years under different programmes like Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) and Affordable Housing in Partnership.
The matter will be seen into and planned actions will be taken for building of these houses. This is an urgent need to meet the standards in the urban areas in the country. The process might be long but taken into fact an organised team can answer the needs by the proper planning and building of these urban areas. Uttar Pradesh needs special assistance though in this issue.
