Namma MetroThe decision to change the alignment of proposed metro line along Bannerghatta road has been taken by a high-powered committee in March. The said change of alignment will affect Infosys office, a mall and other 95 properties apart from 160 apartments.

Earlier it was proposed to have interchange facility between two lines, RV Road-Bommasandra and Gottigere-Nagavara, at SJICR hospital’s parking lot. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation managing director N Sivasailam defended the realignment, saying SJICR is a national facility which cannot be disturbed.

Among the affected properties are six-floor Casa Ansal Apartments and seven storey Gopalan Innovation Mall. But all the affected properties will be demolished partially.

A resident of Casa Ansal Apartments said that they have not been informed about the decision that was taken by BMRC. They are planning to meet the governor, who has been favouring underground stretches.

Ramadas Kamath U, senior vice-president (infrastructure), Infosys said that the company has some plans but they are hoping that the government will take fair decision and enough time to affected people to relocate comfortably.

If sources are to be believed then, director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICSR) said that the hospital has just 120 ft of open space and if a station come up here it will engulf the out- patient block, making it difficult for patients to move around.

Moreover, the vibrations and micro-dust that train movement would have generated will impacted the heart patients. A Metro station buzzing with activity and train movement will have an adverse impact on pacemakers and patients and, needless to say, this is scientifically proven.

The Metro also runs close to Vani Vilas Hospital. Despite of maintaining a distance of 800 ft from the hospital, cracks have developed during excavation process.

Experts claims that the issue is not about having a metro interchange station. This means a lot of commercial activity, public movement, parking of vehicles and especially noise levels. People inside the hopital will be sensitive to all this. It’s now safe that the realignment has been done and the corridor is running on the other side.
