Six new industrial parks to come up in TN

industrial parks in ChennaiTamil Nadu- Recently, Industries Minister announced six new industrial parks across the state. These parks would spread over 8,000 acres and will be established in Cheyyar, Sriperumbudur, Tuticorin, Oragadam, Madurai and Tindivanam.

The new industrial park in Sriperumbudur would spread over 1,780 acres and will create 3,000 and 20,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities respectively. The minister said that many MNCs have also shown interest to set up units in their park.

The Cheyyar industrial complex would undergo expansion of 2,300 acres of land. Around 1,179 acres of land would be added to the Thoothukudi industrial complex (Tuticorin) under Phase II of the project. The Oragadum industrial growth centre would also entail expansion of 616 acres under Phase II of the project.

In case of Madurai and Tindivanam industrial park, the government is in process of acquiring 1,478 acres and 720 acres of land respectively.

SIPCOT (State industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu) is planning to ameliorate housing facilities and basic social infrastructure in the region. In this regard, it is preparing an extensive plan with the help of consultants. It would allot land to foreign investors from countries like Japan, Korea, Finland, Germany and France to set up industrial parks in the region.

The government has already issued orders for 100 acres of land each to be allotted by SIPCOT but the allotment would be done after acquisition of lands in the Sriperumbudur industrial park expansion under Vallam-Vadagal scheme.

Additionally, SIPCOT is also planning to develop the industrially backward southern districts of the state. It has selected 25,000 acres of land for this purpose which will fulfill the Tamil Nadu Vision 2023 document.

SIPCOT has plans to meet the present water requirement 10 MGD (million gallons per day) for industrial park by establishing a water treatment plant. It will either go for a public private partnership model or with Chennai Metro Water.

The Bio Park at Taramani will also be provided an additional lab space of  6.13 lakh square feet under Phase II of the project. TIDCO (Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation) is performing the construction work at a cost of Rs 150 crore to provide more space for biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology and other research and development activities.

The corporation  is also planning a LNG (liquefied natural gas) import terminal near Ennore at an estimated cost of Rs 4,320 crore.
