Slum dwellers to get rehabilitated
The state government has issued a notice announcing the cut-off date for airport slum dwellers to be eligible for free housing as January 1, 2000, or any other date decided by the Airports Authority of India.
The state is offering an FSI of 4 for the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme (SRS) and restricted the height in the area—only 500 tenements will be allowed per hectare. The remaining FSI will be allowed as transfer of development rights to be used elsewhere.
But state officials said that it would be difficult to utilize even 3 FSI for in-situ rehabilitation. The state is seeking to introduce a new clause, Regulation 68, in the development control regulations for the in-situ rehabilitation. It is estimated that 85,000 families or four lakh persons live on 309 acres of the 1,982 acres of airport land.
According to the notice the slum dwellers will be given a proper settlement. However it has not been stated as when the work will be starting from regarding this project. But the authorities are keen regarding it.
