Stagnant sewage, residents suffer
Coimbatore- Choked sewage network, stinking mess, no toilets, no garbage disposal system, unauthorised constructions, poor sewerage system: These are the woes that the residents of Selvapuram Housing Unit and Kallamedu have been complaining about as they have gotten much worse this year.
The lack of a clean and clear sewerage system is the major concern of the residents. Due to unauthorised constructions coming up abruptly, the sewage network is left with no way to flow on to and is getting choked. The sewage from toilets is also getting collected amidst houses and is stinking terribly adding to the residents’ discomfort.
The civic bodies are busy playing blame game and have turned a deaf ear to the residents’ woes. It would not take much effort for the Coimbatore Corporation to solve the problem by linking the tanks there to its underground drainage network. Neither the Corporation nor the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) is coming forward to find any solution.
The Kallamedu residents, particularly women, are worried as there are no toilets in that area. Raising the issue in the Corporation Council also went in vain.
