Gurgaon-Faridabad roadA lot of objections have been raised regarding the road width, footpaths and cycle tracks to be implemented as per Integrated Mobility Plan in Gurgaon

A lot of objections have been raised by the Punjab and Haryana High Court appointed consultant to study the Gurgaon’s Integrated Mobility Plan implementation. This plan was made by DTPC or Department of Town and Country Planning. Objections have been raised regarding the road width, footpath width and cycle track width.

As per this mobility plan, 250 km new roads were to be constructed by HSIIDC, HUDA and MCG. While constructing new roads, the repair of the 200km existing roads was also supposed to be undertaken besides constructing 200 km footpaths and cycle tracks as per feasibility.

The chief administrator of HUDA or the Haryana Urban Development Authority had written earlier this year to the Department of Urban Local Bodies and stated that the city is witnessing an exponential growth and its vehicular traffic is also increasing rapidly. In lieu of this growth, the development plan that sanctioned the road width needs to be revised. This resulted in the issuance of a notice to the district town planner and senior town planners asking them for an upgradation in the major arterial roads’ width from 60 meters to 75 meters. At the same time, it was proposed to keep the width of the arterial roads at 60 meters while raising the width of the sector roads from 30 meters-45 meters. The width of the local roads was also proposed to be increased from 9 meters to twelve meters.

The High Court appointed a consultant, Mr Navdeep Asija to study the Integrated Mobility Plan implementation besides several other ongoing works planned by different departments. Mr Navdeep became quite popular with his dial-a-rickshaw concept, Ecocabs that won him Year 2011’s National Award for Excellence of India. After studying the plan and various projects, he submitted his report on 17th October and identified several anomalies in the plan implementation.

As per his report, Mr Asija, 93 km of the 200 km footpaths to be built were in HUDA areas. Out of this 93 KM, 58 KM has already been completed while work is progressing on the remaining 27 km with 8 km yet untouched. As per his reports, the basic standards are not being met in the implementation of the plan.
