Tanker firms to pay tax for using private wells

No Comments Sub Category:Cities,Civic Issues,Mumbai Posted On: Nov 30, 2012

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to levy tax on tanker companies which draw water from private wells.

The civic body has already sent a proposal regarding rampant drawing of water from wells for commercial purpose to the state government for permission. The BMC does not have the power to take those wells as they are privately owned but they can put tax on the companies.

The point was raised by Sena corporator Shubha Raul in the standing committee. To prevent random use of water, the BMC should take over these wells, she added. There are around 784 private well according to records.
