Unauthorised constructions to be demolished or sealed by DDA soon in Delhi and NCR
The vice-chairman of DDA, Balwinder Kumar, has ordered a month-long drive for sealing as well as removal of all the unauthorised constructions. This was done in the wake of rampant construction of unauthorized rooms and alterations being carried out by various occupants of DDA flats at D-6, VasantKunj.
This is a norm in Delhi to construct unauthorised rooms, encroach the outside space and make gardens, an construct an extra room on the terrace known as ‘’barsati’’.Kumar said that it had been brought to the notice of the DDA that a number of occupants have constructed rooms on the terrace in Narmada, Saraswati, Yamuna and Ganga apartments.
This action should have been taken long back, however better late than never. Kumar stated that the electricity and water supply may also be disconnected to the flats which have illegal constructions. He also explained that if the occupants fail to remove the unauthorised constructions on their own, the DDA would demolish them or seal the flats.
After the plan is sanctioned by DDA or any other regulatory body, most of the Delhiites and the NCR residents do not comply by the approved blue-print. They encroach the neighbouring land which is supposed to be a common property meant for roads and ventilation and extend their boundaries. As a result of which they pay tax only as per the area in the plan, however end up using sometimes up to double of it.
