Vadodara Municipal Corporation eyeing funds for promised development
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is apparently eyeing funds for the promised development of the city from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi contested the 2014 general elections.
A wish list has been submitted by the VMC to seek funds from the budget of Gujarat state; and the civic body probably has an eye on four major projects.
With the new Gujarat Finance Minister Saurabh Patel being a legislator from the Akota constituency of Vadodara, the VMC is hopeful that its suggestions for funds will be favourably responded to by the state government.
One of the key areas in which the VMC is expecting a major thrust from the state government is the civic body’s projects for increasing water resources for the city. Despite the fact that the city can cater to the water needs of its population at present, the VMC wants to ensure that the city’s future requirement for water is duly taken care of well in advance.
Other than making sure that Vadodara has sufficient water resources to cater to the demand in the future, the VMC is also seeking funds from the state government for the ambitious ring road project which it plans to undertake with help from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The cost of that project to the VMC will be approximately Rs300 crore.
