Water tank collapses with jolted residents
Bhopal- In a shocking incident, about 3000 residents from Sai Baba slum cluster got the jolt of their life as the overhead water tank which was was about 350 ft high came crashing down their hutments.
A loud noise followed by a thud shocked the residents as women, children and men were trapped in the debris. This was further followed by a power cut and water gushing in their dwellings.
This chaotic incident claimed a life of Gunja under the pile of concrete who was pregnant with her child along with two other minor children aged five.
Other hutsments were injured gravely with fractured hand and ribs with many trapped under the debris and few others killed. Owing to this the BMC rule was brought in to light wherein an area thrice the height of the water tank should be free of any construction. Also a school which was saved at a razors edge was located only 20 ft away from the tank while the slums were 25 ft away.
