ELU mapsBrihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has got around 3,000 responses on the last day of giving suggestions for the existing land use (ELU) maps.

With just one day remaining, 3,000 people came out with suggestions and feedback on the deadline day.

At least two months of period was given to the citizens to respond to the ELU maps. However, many responded on the last day, i.e, February 28.

As per sources, the final deadline can be extended to one more month.

Many corporators, citizens’ groups, NGOs, etc have found several errors while scrutinizing the ELU maps at ward levels. They want the civic body to rectify the issues before going ahead with the new development plan for the next 20 years from 2014.

The ELU maps, so formed are the basis of the development plan. The DP is the land use map of the city.

However, as per officials, many people have sent more than one objection which are same. They are sending the same objection more than once via different methods, email, letter, through a NGO, etc.

Now, the BMC will send its officials to the individual wards to check the errors and solve them. If needed, the changes will be made in the maps and then work will start to prepare the draft of the development plan.

Other errors which were pointed out by the citizens include educational institutes marked on commercial land, slums marked as green spaces or not marked at all, open spaces, heritage structures have been mapped as something else or not mapped at all.

Around 200 errors were found from the wards of M-east (Chembur, Trombay), H-west (Bandra, Santa Cruz) and K-west (Juhu).
