3879 Potholes to be Filled in a Week by GHMC Hyderabad
A total of 3,879 potholes have been identified by the engineering wing in Hyderabad as needing immediate attention. The Mayor said many roads had been damaged especially by the incessant rain from August 27. Technicalities over the definition apart, what the city commuter wants is quick and continuous action by the civic authorities in repairing the potholes and ensuring a smooth ride.
The potholes in the road that leave most motorists quaking, especially in the rainy season, are to get filled up within a week, promises the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). It was announced at a press conference jointly held by GHMC mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and commissioner MT Krishna Babu on Friday.
The Mayor said many roads had been damaged especially by the incessant rain from August 27. “The recarpeting of BT roads would be taken up after the monsoon season, for which the corporation has tentatively sanctioned about Rs 60 crores,” the mayor said. Krishna Babu said that henceforth about 320 km Roads and Buildings (R&B) roads in the city like SP Road for instance, would be maintained by the municipal corporation as directed by the chief minister.
Krishna Babu also talked of the widening of storm water drains in the city, in the first phase of which, work would begin on 13 major nalas including four major and nine primary nalas, from November this year. The removal of encroachments on the nalas, and relocation of the people would be done before November.
