ECB code to be made compulsory for buildings

No Comments Sub Category:Cities,Hyderabad,Realty News Posted On: Mar 26, 2013

ECB codeHyderabad- The Energy Conservation Building (ECB) code has been made mandatory for all the upcoming major buildings, multistorey apartment complexes etc. in the entire state. The new ECB code is expected to come into force from first week of April 2013.

In this regard, the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) is gearing up to notify the ECB code and make it mandatory. It is believed that if the buildings comply with the ECB norms, energy wastage could be avoided and up to 40 percent of energy can be saved.

The commercial and multi-storeyed residential apartments will be rated with stars as per its energy efficiency. Special training would be provided to architects to check the efficiency of buildings followed by certification of stars.

A five star residential apartment denotes high energy efficiency while a single star denotes less energy efficiency. Now buyers can also check the ratings of the buildings to know its efficiency.

The ECB code states builders to use only specified materials like electric wires and other equipment. For instance, installation of non-standard motor would be rejected in a multi-storeyed apartment and the builder should ISI motor as per ECB code.

Similarly, the builder should  use solar water heaters and should also have recycling mechanism for water to minimise its wastage resulting in less use of power. In this regard, the builders demanded  ECB code guidelines in simpler language from municipal officers.

According to the sources, the independent house will be spared from the ECB code. However, it will be applicable to sectors like industry, municipal administration, domestic and agriculture.

The major elements of the ECB code includes building envelope, energy consumption monitoring systems, lighting systems, solar water heating systems and others.
