Snags to Noida Authority proposal to construct along the Yamuna embankments
Noida Authority‘s proposal to develop the fifteen lakh square meter flood plain with a view to regain land has ran into glitches after the Lieutenant Governor (LG)- office has filed a petition seeking stay of the proposed construction. The LG office had earlier filed the petition at the Supreme Court. The Noida authority wants to develop the Noida link road on the flood plain for commercial development. In its petition the L-G office cited that ownership of the Yamuna flood plain has been a controversial issue, as a matter of fact, the rights to the flood plain along both sides of the 23-km stretch of the Yamuna that flows through Delhi actually lies alongĀ Delhi and not with that of Uttar Pradesh.
Noida Authority had planned to build a dike on the left side of the Yamuna river. It will stretch from National Highway-24 to the Chilla Regulator. The proposal was passedĀ in August 2008 and was sent to the Yamuna Standing Committee in 2009. The project is Rs 92.10 crore project as a flood control measure. It is also a known fact that that the project will also be to reclaim the area along the embankment.
