Air-pollution in rise in Delhi
Residents in Delhi were in for a shock to hear that the pollution level in the city were a all time high in the Friday. The city was engulfed in a thick haze which drew the concern of many people towards rising levels of air-pollution. Officials at Centre for Science and Environment’s clean air programme has said that levels of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) were present in significant amounts in the air. They also said that about 80 percent of NOx and NO2 comes from vehicles. The pollution levels with NOx in the air reaches its peak during the rush hours.
Green-activists who have been campaigning for sometime now to ask the authorities to something to sort out the problem of air pollution got a fact added to their arguments with Friday’s haze. The pollution levels in Delhi have been increasing due to the increase in the number of vehicles. Also the large scale construction has given rise to dust in the air along with the burning of garbage and leaves in the area.
