Annoying water storage facilities
Coimbatore- The residents of Thudiyalur Cheran Nagar and other localities under Ward 1 are facing many water storage problems.
There are only few pots and barrels which are filled by piloor water once in 15 to 20 days in these areas by Coimbatore Corporation. A local resident explained the difficulties they face on the fourth day when the water starts getting dirty and reaches to extreme level on 10th day with worms and sediments in container.
Due to lack of sufficient storage space, people living in rented house and from lower economic background are suffering the most.
Ward 1 is in Thudiyalur and was recently part of the Thudiyalur Town Panchayat. The councillor, V. Vathsala blames this recent development for this situation as earlier residents were able to get water once in four or five days. She feels that nothing has changed in the city which suddenly generated insufficient supply of water.
She also raised this issue several times in the North Zone meetings and Councils. On 10th December, she again discussed this matter at the Mayor’s review meeting resulting in a positive response from officials.
It was also noticed that there was also poor supply of borewell water which complemented to the supply of Pilloor water. Further the councillor explained about the efforts taken by her and the reasons for insufficient supply of water.
Officials believe that there may be leakage and poor distribution network in the main supply line which resulted in such kind of situation on the Mettupalayam Road . They also feel that addition of new pipelines by civic body will surely to improve the distribution system.
