Auto Fare Hike to affect Mumbai City Passengers

1 Comment Sub Category:Awareness,Community Posted On: Oct 14, 2011

The Commissioner of State Transport Department of Mumbai, V. N More announced that new revised auto fares will come into effect from this Sunday midnight. The commissioner was inaugurating a prepaid taxi service outside Dadar railway station. He said that the decree will come into effect in a couple of days and the signature of the state transport secretary Mr.Shailesh Sharma is yet to be done. Once it is done there will be new tariff cards printed and issued to the auto unions.

According the new rate hike there wont be any change in the minimum fare that is Rs 11, however for every kilometre charging after every first 1.6 km, passengers will have to pay fifty paise extra. Passengers are requested not to pay according to the new rates in case the driver fails to produce new tariff cards.

The commissioner was critical about cabs entering the premises of railway station in Mumbai despite the presence of a prepaid taxi stand and the alleged role of the auto and taxi drivers who are burdening the passengers by over charging. Many cases have come into light where the passengers are actually the victims of the tampered meters. The officials have warned the passengers and if any such cases will attract huge penalties if proven.
