Automatic traffic control fails in Chandigarh
The implementation of automatic traffic control in Madhya Marg in Chandigarh failed to witness the desired response amongst the commuters. The traffic department of Chandigarh recently implemented automatic traffic management system instead of the manual management in trial basis. Many commuters complained that they had to encounter a number of problems owing to the lack of co-ordination amongst the management of traffic.
People complained that they had to spend more time than usual to move through the streets, also they had to stop at multiple traffic points. The implementation actually brought more confusion making it unable for vehicles to move along especially in the traffic junction at Sector-18 . Many ambulances also were stranded in the confusion. In fact there were more jams than usual.
The traffic department has said they are undecided if the system is made permanent. Earlier the traffic was managed by traffic police personnel manually by using hand signals.
